[Text available only in English] ROMA is an immersive video installation that envelops visitors in a circle of six vertical rear-projected screens, each 5 meters high and 2.8 meters wide. In the center of the space, on scattered cushions, viewers are invited to immerse themselves in a visual and aural narrative that traverses the city in all its dimensions: physical, emotional, historical and urban.
The work stems from a process of collecting and reworking visual and sound materials - environmental sound recordings, photographs, videos and 3D scans - from different corners of Rome. This living archive is transformed in real time into generative graphics and data visualization, which tell a layered and complex Rome: at once personal and collective.
The textures of the city become protagonists: the marbles polished by time, the bumpy stones of the streets, the scratched and peeling walls of working-class neighborhoods. Each surface carries with it a story, a scar, a memory. The images do not illustrate, but evoke, suggest, layer meaning.
The soundscape is an essential part of the experience. Traffic noise, sirens, excited voices, honking and braking draw a frenetic and dissonant urban rhythm, contrasting with more rarefied and solemn sounds: the echoes in an empty basilica, the rustling of trees in an ancient park, the chants that are lost within the walls of Trastevere. The city is also told through its acoustic breath, messy but deeply human.
ROMA is neither a celebration nor a denunciation. It is a sincere portrait, an immersion inside the city as it is today: beautiful and contradictory, powerful and wounded, eternal and fragile.
An invitation to rediscover and love it not only for what it has been, but for what it continues to be - with all its splendor and its shadows.
