[Текст доступен только на английском языке] How do you build a truly immersive experience—one where space stops being a screen and becomes an environment?
Immersive Spaces with TouchDesigner is a residency through which Bruno Tripodi brings his research on real-time multi-projector mapping to MAM. Over five days and forty hours of intensive work, participants will engage with one of the most challenging aspects of immersive media production: creating coherent real-time visual environments across multiple projection surfaces while maintaining perspective, fluidity, and creative control.
The residency takes place within MAM's immersive environment: a 300-square-meter space powered by 27 projectors, one of Europe's largest permanent infrastructures dedicated to live audiovisual experimentation. Participants will investigate what makes immersive spaces unique, from designing across multiple surfaces and working with 3D environments to addressing the challenges of scale, audience perception, light, color, and ultra-high-resolution content.
At the center of the residency is the Immersive Room nDisplay .tox, a TouchDesigner component developed by Bruno Tripodi and already distributed internationally through his educational channels. Inspired by Unreal Engine's nDisplay system, the tool translates multi-surface spatial visualization into the TouchDesigner ecosystem, allowing artists to adapt a single 3D virtual environment to walls, floors, and ceilings simultaneously while automatically managing perspective distortion and generating clean outputs ready for media servers.
At MAM, this tool encounters for the first time a space of sufficient scale and technical complexity to fully explore its potential. Participants will use nDisplay as both a visualization and preview system while developing practical workflows for planning, producing, and deploying immersive content—from initial concept to final output.
The first part of the residency focuses on methodology and conceptual foundations, sharing tools, workflows, and techniques developed through Bruno's professional practice. Participants will then develop their own immersive projects—individually or collaboratively—with ongoing guidance throughout the process. The residency functions not as a traditional workshop, but as a collaborative research environment where experimentation, prototyping, and project development are central to the experience.
The residency culminates in a public presentation as part of the final program showcase, where participants will present their projects within MAM's immersive environment and explore how technology can disappear into experience, transforming space into a living medium.
Requirements
A working knowledge of TouchDesigner is required to participate. While techniques, workflows, and shortcuts will be shared throughout the residency, participants should already feel comfortable navigating the software independently in order to make the most of the experience.
