Shadow Lapse
[Text available only in English] Shadow Lapse is a site-specific/site-generated video projection for an out-door environment where people may pass, repose, or socialize.
As the title implies, the visual content is primarily a time-lapse video capturing the shadow-play of the space over the course of several hours. The video is projected back into the space, mapped precisely to the dimensions thereof. Multiple layers are made in primary colors and looped at different speeds. Viewers have the sensation of viewing and participating in the previous day in multiple, overlapping time frames. Additionally, texture layers appear to suggest the existence of a different dimension hidden by the day light.
The process of production begins in the specific space early in the day, to capture the shadow play in time-lapse videography, during which time projection equipment is installed. Editing and preparing the video material are done on-site.
The projection, and all of the component layers and variations continue in fluid rhythms for at least one hour, until the end of the scheduled exhibition, or when the sun rises in the morning.
