[Text available only in English] Fragmentin will remotely run a one day workshop on the topic of natural, artificial and digital landscapes. The artist trio will explain to the participants the process behind the production of the map “Val d’Arcadia”: from the concept/inspiration to getting the data from Swisstopo and finally transforming it for the final output through the open-source software “Processing”.

About Fragmentin

Fragmentin (www.fragment.in) is an artist collective based in Lausanne, Switzerland, founded in 2014 and composed by three ECAL (Lausanne University of Art and Design) alumni: Laura Perrenoud, David Colombini and Marc Dubois.
At the crossroads of art and engineering, Fragmentin’s work questions the impact of digital on everyday life by investigating these technologies' disposition towards control and opacity. Fragmentin's works are often conceived as spaces for discussion on crucial contemporary themes and issues such as climate change.

Who can apply?
Anyone interested in maps, topography and data fiction.
Basic knowledge of Processing is a plus, not mandatory.
Language and location
The workshop is in English and will be conducted online, with the aim to work with artists and practitioners from Arabic-speaking countries.

Timeline
One day duration, on 25 May 2021.
- 9:30 - 10:15: Fragmemtin Introduction about Artificial Arcadia and Val d’Arcadia
- 10:15 - 12:15: Showing the process of the making of the map (Swiss topo + Processing script)
- 12:00 - 14:30: Exercise for the participants: Imagining a fictional landscape. (what type of landscape, which data ? a 2D/3D map? Which output: digital/analog etc?
Make a sketch or a photo montage to represent your idea.
- 14:30 - 15:30: Exercise (continued)
- 15:30-16:00: Conceptual and technical Feedback from Fragmentin on the different ideas
- 16:30 - 17:00 Finalization of their concept
- 17:00 - 18:00 Discussion of the results and end of the workshop
